K-WINGS FLIPS SCRIPT ON READING, HOME OPENER & ORANGE ICE THIS WEEK

Kalamazoo responds to a split Reading set and readies for an eight-of-next-nine home stretch.

OVERALL RECORD:  1-1-1-0

LAST WEEK: 1-1-0-0

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Wings (1-1-1-0), proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Vancouver Canucks, host Toledo (2-1-0-0) for the final home opener at Wings Event Center on Friday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. and Bloomington (3-0-0-0) for the Orange Ice game on Saturday, October 31, at 7:00 p.m.

Last week, the K-Wings went 1-1-0-0 (1-4, 4-1).

Kalamazoo continued its three-game road swing in Reading last weekend, and fell in the opening game of the set Saturday, 4-1. The Royals stormed out to a one-goal advantage on their first shot of the contest and never looked back. Early in the second, they notched a short-handed tally before K-Wings forward Zach Urdahl scored a power-play goal to cut it to one. Unfortunately, a miscue in the defensive zone led to a Reading goal near the end of the second, and the Royals sealed it with an empty-net goal in the third.

The K-Wings returned the favor Sunday, winning dominantly, 4-1. The game was scoreless after one, and Kalamazoo opened up the second with two strikes in 1:30. First, Tyler Gratton splashed home a power-play goal, followed by a Collin Saccoman 4-on-4 goal. Almost 12 minutes into the third, the K-Wings extended their lead to 3-0 on a power-play goal by Konstantin Khremkin. Reading drew to within two with a power-play goal of their own shortly after, but Dylan Wendt ended it with an empty-netter late. Aku Koskenvuo was fantastic in this one, stymying the Royals all afternoon with 33 saves in the contest.
