Kalamazoo, MI-The Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, have re-signed veteran defenseman Ben Wilson, the team announced on Wednesday morning.
Wilson, 27, enters his eighth professional season and sixth in Kalamazoo. The Calgary, AB native has appeared in 350 professional games, including 249 with the K-Wings.
“He’s a true leader on and off the ice. His commitment to the game is truly 24/7,” said head coach Nick Bootland. “He’s as team first of a guy as they come, and we’re thrilled to have him back.”
Team captain in each of the last two seasons, Wilson has recorded 45 points (10g, 35a) in his time in Kalamazoo.
“It was a no-brainer for me to come back,” said Wilson. “My focus this summer has been getting back to the playoffs. Last season left a bitter taste in my mouth with the playoff hunt coming down to the last game. I’m looking forward to getting right back into the playoff hunt.”
Wilson is the sixth player inked for the 2018-19 season joining netminder Jake Hildebrand, as well as forwards Eric Kattelus, Chad McDonald, Jimmy Mullin, and Justin Taylor.
Kalamazoo Wings season tickets are available now and start at less than $13 per game with parking included and one-of-a-kind benefits. More information can be gathered at www.kwings.com/seasontickets.
