KALAMAZOO, MI— The Kalamazoo Wings have traded defenseman Charlie Vasaturo to the Reading Royals for future considerations, the team announced Thursday.
Vasaturo, 27, has appeared in 50 games this season, earning one goal and seven assists for eight points. Since joining Kalamazoo in 2015-16, the third-year defenseman has logged 159 total games and 35 career points (12 goals, 23 assists). He was the only member of the Wings to appear in all 72 regular season games last year.
Before his professional career took off with the Wings, Vasaturo spent two seasons (2009-11) with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the BCHL, where he skated in 114 contests and racked up 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) and 153 penalty minutes.
At the conclusion of his tenure with Salmon Arm, he spent four years at Union College(2011-15), where he won two straight (2012-13) ECAC league titles and was a member of the Dutchmen’s 2014 NCAA National Championship winning squad. The 6-foot-2 defenseman’s leadership in college earned him team-captain honors during his senior season, and he was twice named as an ECAC All-Academic Team member.
