Playmaking center Cam Darcy signs with Wings

KALAMAZOO, MI—The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Vancouver Canucks, have signed centerman Cam Darcy to a standard professional contract, the team announced Tuesday.Darcy, 23, is familiar with the Wings, as he was re-assigned to Kalamazoo by the Tampa Bay Lightning in February of last season.

Upon his arrival, Darcy electrified the Wings’ lineup by tallying 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 20 regular season games and ten points (three goals, seven assists) in seven playoff games. Darcy’s 1.25 points per game ranked 7th among all ECHL skaters who appeared in at least 20 regular season games, and his 1.43 points per game during the playoffs ranked second among all skaters.

A third-year pro, he has spent most of his career in the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch, dressing in 90 of his 110 career games at the AHL level. Since his pro debut in 2015, he has notched career totals of 12 goals and 32 assists across both leagues.

Prior to turning pro, Darcy spent two seasons (2010-12) with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and represented the nation on several occasions. He was a member of Team U.S.A.’s 2011 World Hockey Under-17 Challenge silver medal team, and earned a gold medal with U.S.A.’s 2012 IIHF World U18 Championship team.

Along with his decorated resume with Team U.S.A., Darcy also appeared in nine games with Northeastern University in 2012 before heading back to the USHL, where he dressed in 45 games with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and notched 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists).

After he wrapped up in the USHL, Darcy headed to the QMJHL for two seasons and had tremendous success. During the 2013-14 season with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, he earned 82 points (35 goals, 47 assists) and was named to the league’s second all-star team. He eventually ended his QMJHL career with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in 2015, after amassing 141 points (56 goals, 85 assists) in 121 games.

The native of South Boston, Massachusetts, was a seventh round (pick 185) draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
