KALAMAZOO, MI—The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Vancouver Canucks, have re-signed last year’s team Rookie of the Year, Josh Pitt, to a standard professional contract, the team announced Wednesday.Pitt, 25, led all Wings’ rookies in scoring last year by notching 18 goals and 17 assists during 49 games played in 2016-17. He also added four goals in seven games played during the post season.Though he only tallied four points in his first 16 games of the season, the winger played possessed during the second half of the year, earning 31 points in his final 33 games played. His best individual span came during late-March, when his eight points in two games against Norfolk earned him ECHL/Sher-Wood Hockey Player of the Week honors.Before he turned pro, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound forward spent four seasons at Western Michigan University, where he totaled 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 115 games. His breakout season with the Broncos came as a sophomore, where he set career marks in goals (9), assists (9) and points (18). Additional accolades during that season included being named to the NCHC All-Academic team, and the GLI All-Tournament Team.Before his university career, Pitt spent four years with the Kemptville 73s and the Ottawa Jr. Senators in the Central Canada Hockey League, where he dressed in 196 games and tallied 119 points.The best games.
