KALAMAZOO, MI— Kalamazoo Wings forward Josh Pitt has been named as the ECHL’s Sher-Wood Hockey Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
In three games last week, Pitt tallied four goals, four assists, and a +4 rating. Though he was held scoreless in Wednesday’s win over the Florida Everblades, Pitt erupted on Friday night against Norfolk with his first career hat trick, and he also added an assist for a four-point outing. He followed up his performance on Saturday night with a goal and three assists, marking the first and second times a Kalamazoo Wings skater has tallied four points in a single game.
The rookie has appeared in 44 games with the Wings this season, and has been able to log 18 goals and 16 assists for 34 points. A native of Brockville, Ontario, Pitt has points in five of his last six games and has amassed 12 (seven goals, five assists) total points during that span.
Before turning pro, Pitt spent four seasons at Western Michigan University (CCHA/NCHC) and tallied 36 points in 115 career games, while splitting time between playing as a forward and a defenseman.
The honor marks the second time this season (Justin Taylor, 1/24/17) a Kalamazoo Wing has been named as the league’s top performer of the week.
On behalf of Pitt, a case of pucks will be donated to the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) by Sher-Wood Hockey, the official puck provider of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated over 35,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
Pitt and the Kalamazoo Wings are in Florida for a three-game set with the Florida Everblades on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The games can be heard on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo or online at www.1660thefan.com/listen-live.
