KALAMAZOO, MI—The Kalamazoo Wings have selected the jersey concept of Kurt Gorecki as the winner of the team’s first ever fan-designed jersey contest. Gorecki’s design will be worn by the Wings on December 16 against the Brampton Beast during “A Christmas Story” themed game at Wings Event Center.
The design, which features a blue and cream color scheme, was designed in the spirit of the holiday season in which they will be worn by Kalamazoo.
“From the very conception of the design, I knew that I wanted to push the envelope,” Gorecki said. The idea was to take concepts of the 70’s and 80’s and deliver them into a design that would make fans and players appreciate the game, holiday atmosphere, and jersey in a unique way,” he added.
Gorecki said he was in awe when he found out he was selected by the organization as the winning designer.
“Winning this competition means everything to me,” the native of Brighton, Michigan, said. “I am in complete shock that the (Wings) will be wearing a piece of my work.”
As the winner, Gorecki will be presented with a personalized version of the jersey and he will drop the ceremonial puck at the December 16 game. After the contest, the jerseys will be auctioned off, and all of the proceeds will be donated to a local cause/organization which has yet to be determined.
The Kalamazoo Wings received over 60 unique designs from contestants all around North America during the contest window. Gorecki’s design was named to the final four through a fan vote which received over 2,000 ballots, and it was eventually selected as the winner by Wings’ management.
